Full marathon to return for the 2016 Cape Breton Fiddlers Run

Run organizers made the announcement this week in unveiling plans for the 12th annual run event, which will take place earlier in the fall than usual on Sept. 11, 2016 in Sydney.
"We're bringing back the full marathon distance. It's been gone the last two years," said Nick Burke, Fiddlers Run race director. "We took to heart comments from local runners and from runners off island. We were constantly getting requests about the full marathon so we felt it was important to bring back the only marathon that is held in Cape Breton."
Burke noted the marathon will be run on the original race route — from the Victoria Park Armouries, along Kings Road and Westmount Road, returning to the armouries and repeating, to make up the 42.2 km distance.
“Having run the old route and participated in races internationally, I can honestly say that it is one of the nicest routes available to a runner,” says Burke, adding, "It is relatively flat, easy for runners to manoeuvre and the scenery along the Sydney/Westmount waterfront is beautiful."
Burke said that the Fiddlers Run marathon will be a qualifying event for the Boston Marathon.
And as always, the Cape Breton Fiddlers Run will include five-kilometre, 10-kilometre and half-marathon races, as well as a team relay event, a sports expo and live music along the race route. All events will take place at Victoria Park in Sydney.
“We want to get the word out early so people can start planning to participate in the Fiddlers Run in September and maybe even make it part of their New Year’s resolutions,” said Burke.
