Everyone Invited to Participate in Fiddlers Run Weekend Events
This weekend the Cape Breton Fiddlers Run, presented by the Sydney Credit Union, will take place and everyone is invited to join the celebration. In addition to the 5km, 10km, half-marathon, team-relay and Boston qualifying full-marathon scheduled for Sunday, September 9, a free Healthy Living Expo and a Ceilidh on the Course are also planned.
“The Healthy Active Living Expo adds even more excitement to the weekend,” says Fiddlers Run Race Director, George Jessen. “The expo is free and you don’t have to be registered for the Fiddlers Run to come. Everyone is welcome to attend to help us celebrate the benefits of healthy and active living.”
The expo, which includes over 30 booths and presenters, will take place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 8 at Victoria Park in Sydney. Anyone can stop by the expo to shop for clothing and accessories for active living, gain useful information on how to stay healthy and find items to pamper themselves after a tough workout. This will also be the last chance for people to register before the race, as there is NO race day registration this year. Some of the booths that will be at the expo include: Body Tech Prosthetics, Running Room, Charlene's Nutrition Centre, Downtown Nutrition/Lifewear Couture, Framework Cycle and Fitness, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Kin-Excel and more. Dr. Chris Milburn will also make a presentation on barefoot/minimalist running at 12:30 PM.
On Sunday, September 9 everyone is encouraged to come down to Victoria Park to watch the 5km and 10km runners. People living in communities in Glace Bay, New Waterford and South Bar are encouraged to come out and cheer runners along the new half marathon and marathon race route, and attend a pancake breakfast in South Bar during the race. Spectators and the public are encouraged to take advantage of the Ceilidh on the Course. The Ceilidh on the Course will feature local fiddlers and piano players at different points along the race route.
“This year we’re happy to be expanding the route into several Cape Breton communities, making it a memorable experience for participants and spectators,” says Jessen. “We’re looking forward to showcasing Cape Breton’s culture and people, while promoting physical activity and healthy living.”
The Healthy Active Living Expo is open to everyone, not just Fiddlers Run participants and admission to the expo is free. The Fiddlers Run Pasta Dinner, sponsored by Boston Pizza, will also take place on Saturday between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. The pasta dinner is complimentary for registrants while supplies last. The pancake breakfast at the South Bar Fire Hall will take place between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and is open to everyone. The cost is $5.00 per person.
