Fun Run

The Fiddlers 5K Fun Run and the Fiddlers 10K Race will be held Sunday, June 12^th, 2011 with registration at the Cape Breton Family YMCA in Sydney. 

“The goal of the event is for the Learn to Run participants to celebrate their achievement and to get people excited about the run in October”, said race co-director James Forsey. The event is designed for every type of runner. The routes for the 5 km and 10 km road races kick off in downtown Sydney.

Both races begin at 10 a.m.  Registration ($10 per person) opens in the YMCA at 9 a.m.  Walkers are welcome to both events.  There will be draws for door prizes and a chance to win free registration for the Cape Breton Fiddlers Run in September.  The award ceremony will take place in the YMCA at 11a.m.

Fiddlers Fun Run 5K Route

• Start/Finish in front of the Civic Centre on the Esplanade
• South on the Esplanade and Kings Road to the turnaround at the old Cove Guest Home property at 2.5 kilometers and return along Kings Road and the Esplanade to the start/finish.  The first 400 meters of the course will have pylons placed to allowing runners to use part of the road.  For the rest of the route runners must use the sidewalk. 

Water will be available at the turnaround, Argyle Street and the Finish line.

Marshals will be in place at the turnaround point.

• Start/Finish in front of the Civic Centre on the Esplanade

• Turn left on Argyle and then Alexandra Street to Churchill Drive in front of the Cove Nursing Home,
• Turn left on Churchill Drive through Membertou to the Regional Hospital,
• Turn left on the entrance road to the hospital to George Street,
• Turn left on George Street,
• Turn left on Rotary Drive and continue to George Street,
• Turn left on George Street and continue to Byng Ave,
• Turn left on Byng Ave and continue to the Esplanade,
• Turn right on the Esplanade and continue past the Start to Desbarres Street turnaround,
• Return to the Finish at the Civic Centre.

Water will be available at Alexandra St (CBC), Membertou, Wentworth Park, and the Civic Centre.

Police will direct traffic at:
