more informationEveryone Invited to Participate in Fiddlers Run Weekend Events
This weekend the Cape Breton Fiddlers Run, presented by the Sydney Credit Union, will take place and everyone is invited to join the celebration. In addition to the 5km, 10km, half-marathon, team-relay and Boston qualifying full-marathon scheduled for Sunday, September 18, a free Healthy Living Expo and a Ceilidh on the Course are also planned. “The Healthy Active Living Expo is being held in conjunction with CBC’s Sports Day in Canada,” says Colleen Carey, Physical Activity Coordinator with the Cape Breton Regional Municipality and Fiddlers Run committee member. “The expo is free and you don’t have to be registered for the Fiddlers Run to come. Everyone is welcome to attend to help us celebrate the power of sport and the benefits of healthy and active living.”
The expo, which includes over 30 booths and presenters, will take place from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 17 at Victoria Park in Sydney. Participants can stop by the expo to shop for clothing and accessories for active living, gain useful information on how to stay healthy and find items to pamper themselves after a tough workout. Some of the booths that will be at the expo include: Eastern Holistic Yoga; Runalicious; Lifewear Couture; Cape Breton Island Hoppers; CB Farmers’ Market; Charlene’s Nutrition Centre and more. Some presentation topics include: Nutrition for Optimum Health and Performance; Race Day Tips; Footwear; Stretching and more. Sydney-based restaurant, Flavor will also be on hand with tasty treats for sale in the Expo Café.
In addition to the Healthy Living Expo, everyone is encouraged to come down to Victoria Park or drive
the race route along King’s Road and Westmount Road to cheer on race participants and take advantage
of the Ceilidh on the Course. The Ceilidh on the Course will feature local fiddlers and piano players at
different points along the race route.
“This year we expect our biggest turnout yet so we want to offer a memorable experience for participants
and spectators,” says Fiddlers Run Race Director, Dave Gabriel. “We’re seeing a significant increase in
the amount of registrations compared to last year and with people travelling from across Canada and as
far as Japan and France we want to showcase Cape Breton’s culture and people.”
The Healthy Living Expo is open to everyone, not just Fiddlers Run participants and admission to the
expo is free. The Fiddlers Run Pasta Dinner, sponsored by Boston Pizza, will also take place on Saturday
between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. The pasta dinner is complimentary for registrants while supplies last. For
